Mr. and Dr. Charles Y and Louise Kammeyer Cochran
The Corinne Boswell Cochran Scholarship was endowed in memory of Tommie Corinne Boswell Cochran by her son and daughter-in-law. Cochran was born Feb. 14, 1917, in Bodcaw, Ark. She graduated high school from Providence Academy in Alexandria, La. In 1937, she received her registered nursing degree from St. Joseph’s Hospital School of Nursing in Hot Springs, Ark.
Cochran began her nursing career at Henderson Memorial Hospital. She met and married her husband, Charles Young Cochran, in December 1941. During World War II, Cochran served in hospitals across the country, including South Carolina and Oregon. Cochran enjoyed being a nurse for local doctors around the Henderson area, finishing her career as a private duty nurse.
Impact
The Corinne Boswell Cochran Scholarship will be awarded to a nursing student who is classified as a junior or senior. Recipients must maintain at least a 3.0 grade-point average and must acquire their degree through the DeWitt School of Nursing.
