Mr. & Dr. Bill Murphy
Marla was born and raised in Garland. She graduated from SFA in 1973 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in continuing education and was an active member of Delta Zeta Sorority. In 1977, she earned her Master of Science in nutrition from North Texas State University with honors. She later went on to earn two degrees with honors from Texas Women’s University. In 1984, she earned her Master of Science in health care administration, and, in 1993, she was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy in nutrition.
Marla spent the majority of her career in the field of nutrition with her most noteworthy contributions at Cook Children’s Medical Center where she directed the clinical and food-service programs and numerous third-party business operations, leading to her being named Fort Worth Business Woman of the Year in 2004.
Bill was born and raised in Houston and was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School. He earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in management from SFA in 1973 and was an active member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity.
He started his career in Dallas at Texas Instruments as a buyer in the supply division. Bill has spent 41 years in industrial electronic distribution and currently serves as vice president, product information at Mouser Electronics Inc.
Marla and Bill live in Granbury and enjoy spending time with their son, Blaine; daughter-in-law, Heather; and two grandchildren, Briggs and Blakely.
Impact
This scholarship was endowed by Marla D. and William A. Murphy and is awarded to deserving SFA students who are majoring in business. Recipients must maintain at least a 3.0 grade-point average.
