Mr. Matthew Montes
Choosing his field while still in high school, Ryan began preparations to achieve his goal. Serving 4 years in the Air Force as security police allowed him the needed experience as well as the opportunity to take and benefit from earning college credits. He earned a position on the Air Force Contending Warriors team and further challenged himself by attending the Army Ranger school. He is a graduate of the 2001 Texas Department of Public Safety Academy in Austin. In 2005, Ryan was honored by the East Texas Peace Officer’s Association as they awarded him with the ETPOA Narcotics Officer of the Year Award.
Ryan was born in Nacogdoches, Texas and graduated from Nacogdoches High School. He grew up attending the Nazarene Church accepting Christ at an early age. Those who knew him will fondly remember his quick wit and kind heart.

The Arthur “Ryan” Koonce Memorial Scholarship benefits SFA criminal justice majors. The scholarship honors Ryan Koonce who had a passion and dedication for law enforcement.
