Mrs. Pat Spence

Pat Spence earned her a Bachelor of Journalism degree from the University of Missouri in 1968 and she worked in the newspaper and public relations industries before continuing her education, earning a Master of Arts degree in Communications from SFA in 1987. She characterized her job as director of student publications as “the best job in the world for me. It fed my passion for the newspaper business and let me work with college students.”
Pat Spence retired from SFA in 2014 after almost 30 years as director of student publications and adviser to The Pine Log, its student-produced newspaper. The endowment for this scholarship was generously provided by former students and friends of The Pine Log.

Impact

The Pat Spence Scholarship for The Pine Log (official name) is directed to currently enrolled students with a2.0 GPA that are Mass Communication and/or Art Majors, with an emphasis on photography and ad design. The recipient is chosen by the Student Publications, the director and/or coordinator.
