Ricardo J. Lozano Memorial Scholarship

Ricardo J. Lozano Memorial Scholarship

Ricardo J. Lozano is the brother of Miguel Lozano III, who received a dual bachelor’s and master’s degree in 2004. Richard was born in Falfurrias, Texas, in 1985 and is the youngest child of Mary and Miguel Lozano Jr. Richard was the quintessential little brother who always wanted to join his older siblings in everything they did. As Richard grew up, his own personality and interests took shape and he became his own person. Throughout middle and secondary school, Richard acquired a keen passion for computer technology, art and, most surprising, the culinary arts. After graduating from high school in 2003, Richard enlisted in the United States Navy and joined the Navy’s nuclear program. In 2004, Richard became the proud father of a daughter, Hannah Marie Lozano. While in the Navy, Richard travelled the world and served on the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, where he toured in the Mediterranean and Middle East, assisting and supporting other branches of the Armed Forces in the Iraq and Afghanistan theaters. In 2008, at the age of 23, Ricardo J. Lozano died. His daughter, Hannah, is his only surviving child.

Impact

The Ricardo J. Lozano Memorial Scholarship was created to honor the life of a beloved brother, son and father. This scholarship was endowed to benefit future Lumberjack studies of art and computer science—two of Richard’s favorite hobbies—as well as accounting, the study pursued by his brother while at SFA. More importantly, the scholarship was endowed as an outward sign of the tremendous love Richard shared with his family and most of all with his daughter, Hannah.
