Robert C. Mann Music Scholarship
Dr. Robert C. Mann knew from an early age he wanted a career in music performance and the teaching of music. Born and raised in Lufkin, he received excellent instruction in piano, organ, voice and church music in his formative years. Those experiences led Mann to study organ performance, church music and musicology and ultimately earn music degrees at Trinity University, Yale University and the University of North Texas. In addition to teaching, Mann maintained positions in churches as organist and choir director. He was active throughout his career as an organ recitalist in solo recitals, organ duets and music for two organs, which he played with his wife, Mary Jane Enderby Mann. He participated as organist in state, regional and national professional organizations and edited organ music by 19th-centrury composers Whitney Eugene Thayer and Gustav Merkel for publication. He also wrote articles for journals and books. Mann retired from teaching in 2005 and is resource library director for the Church Music Institute in Dallas.
